About the Role 

The Customer Portal is a core part of how our clients experience CloudGuard, and it’s an active, evolving codebase. You’ll be joining at a point where there’s real scope to shape how it’s built — this is a role for someone who wants to build foundational pieces, not just maintain an established system. 

You will work closely with the Customer Portal team lead and the wider engineering team, contributing to a codebase built on TypeScript, React and Node.js. We record the reasoning behind significant technical decisions as we go, and you’ll be expected to engage with that process — understanding not just what to build, but why. 

The portal connects into CloudGuard’s wider platform, including real-time and data-driven features that go beyond a typical CRUD application. You will build both the interfaces customers use and the APIs that power them. 

Key Responsibilities 

Product Development 

• Build and ship features across the Customer Portal — from the React frontend through to Node.js REST APIs. 

• Write TypeScript across the stack, working within a strict typing culture that leans on the compiler to catch mistakes early. 

• Design and implement REST endpoints following the team’s established API conventions. 

• Work with real-time features as part of the platform’s live-update capability. 

• Contribute to the data layer as the portal’s data needs grow. 

Testing, Quality & Delivery 

• Write and maintain automated tests — unit and component-level — as a normal part of shipping a feature, not an afterthought. 

• Keep code consistent and reviewable through the team’s linting and formatting standards. 

• Containerise services where appropriate, and understand what makes a build production-ready rather than just locally runnable. 

• Contribute to the team’s approach to database testing as the data layer matures. 

• Record significant technical decisions clearly, so the reasoning behind a choice is visible to the next person who needs it. 

Collaboration & Communication 

• Work day-to-day with the Customer Portal team lead, taking direction on priorities while bringing your own judgement to how the work gets done. 

• Communicate progress, blockers and trade-offs clearly — in code review, in standups, and in writing. 

• Flag friction in process or tooling early, rather than working around it quietly. 

• Contribute to a codebase other engineers will build on, with clarity and maintainability in mind.

What We’re Looking For 

Experience & Background 

• Strong experience with TypeScript, ideally in a strict-mode codebase — comfortable with type narrowing, discriminated unions, and building without reliance on `any`. 

• Hands-on experience with React specifically — its component model, hooks and rendering behaviour, not just general familiarity with a component framework. 

• Experience building REST APIs on Node.js. 

• Nice to have: exposure to schema-first or contract-first API design — Express with OpenAPI or equivalent. 

• Nice to have: comfort with runtime type validation at trust boundaries — Zod, Yup, or similar. 

• Nice to have: experience writing unit and component tests — Jest and React Testing Library, Vitest, or equivalent. 

• Nice to have: containerisation fundamentals using Docker or an equivalent tool, and general scripting ability in Bash or PowerShell. 

• Highly desirable: experience with the Azure technology stack — Azure Pipelines, Azure Container services, and Azure infrastructure more broadly. 

Skills & Qualities 

• Curious by default — you want to understand why a system is built the way it is, not just how to extend it. 

• Comfortable with ambiguity — parts of the Customer Portal are still being defined, and you’ll help define them. 

• Judgement alongside execution — able to flag a better approach, not just implement what’s asked. 

• Clear communicator — in code review, in standups, and in writing. 

• Collaborative — you understand that shipping software is a team effort, not a solo pursuit. 

• Disciplined about quality without needing to be told — tests, types and lint checks are habits, not chores. 

• Forward-looking — you think about what the codebase needs to support next, not just what it needs today. 

Qualifications 

• Degree-level education in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience — what you’ve built matters more than the certificate. 

• Eligible to work in the UK. 

• Willing to undergo standard employment vetting checks common to an MSSP handling customer security data.
